Poets are the witnesses of the world. Poems offer experiences that can move people toward change both in their own lives and for the greater good. In this personal-growth and action-oriented reading and writing workshop, we will use poetry to create change for ourselves and others.
This hybrid online and in-person workshop is for anyone who would like to explore poetry and use it as a means for connection— with their inner Self and with other people. In our first three meetings, held online, group members will read, write, and share poetry with each other. Participants will work both individually and collaboratively.
At our final meeting, we will gather in person to put our poetry into action. Using methods from a modality called Psychodrama, we will literally step into the healing possibilities that our words create.
Throughout the workshop, particular attention will be paid to developing group rapport and ensuring safety, trust, and confidentiality in regard to each others’ sensitive material.
In this workshop you will NOT:
- Critique your own or others’ poetry
- Learn right or wrong, or good or bad, ways to write poetry
- Compete with other writers
- Focus on craft or technique
- Create in isolation
In this workshop you WILL:
- Share poems that move you and experience poems that others share
- Explore and experiment with the role of “poet”
- Collaborate with other writers
- Focus on the healing impact of poetry
- Create in community
ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE WITH POETRY ARE WELCOME!
