Jungian-oriented Psychotherapy
A new moon teaches gradualness and deliberation and how one gives birth to oneself slowly . . .
— Rumi
Have you ever felt there are parts of you that you don’t know very well, or at all? Psychologist C.G. Jung believed that there is more to us than just our ego (the person we refer to as “I”). The less we know of ourselves, the more the unknown parts can take over and rule our lives, often in ways that sabotage our best intentions. Jung said, “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
Jungian psychotherapy (also known as “depth psychotherapy”) helps put you in touch with those unknown parts of yourself. I will guide you in exploring the images in your dreams, help you listen carefully to the “irrational” parts of yourself that you normally tend to silence, and adopt a symbolic attitude toward your everyday life events. This endeavor is usually a long-term process that is aimed not at alleviating symptoms but at deep, lasting transformation. We will get curious, and we will get creative. The journey may not be an easy ride, but if you commit yourself to it, your life will take on meaning and purpose in ways you had never dreamed possible.
Interested in learning more about the Jungian/depth approach? A good place to start is listening to the podcast This Jungian Life, in which three Jungian analysts discuss a variety of topics from a Jungian, symbolic perspective. Here is another helpful description of the background of Jungian psychology and the process of analytic therapy.
Psychotherapy for Women’s Empowerment
Are you struggling with the demands of motherhood or the changes of menopause? Dealing with the pain of a miscarriage or infertility? Hurting from a past loss or break-up? Coping with a chronic illness? Are you wondering, through it all, what it might look like to become truly, uniquely yourself? If you are like many women, you may feel disconnected, isolated, and lonely even though you rarely have a single moment to yourself. You may find yourself scrambling to fulfill myriad obligations, only to find yourself exhausted and depleted.
One of my greatest passions is empowering women not only to survive but to flourish. And most importantly, to embody their truest self. Through mindfulness and creativity, you will learn how to nurture your mind and soul by reconnecting with what healer Marion Woodman calls “your greatest gift”— your body, in all its pain, truth, and wisdom.
Psychotherapy for Individuals
Every individual has a unique path. I use a tailored approach for each person based on their specific needs and place in life. My expertise includes working with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, chronic pain and illness, and childhood trauma. Evidence shows that it is the relationship between client and therapist, rather than the therapist’s specific technique, that is most effective at healing. I strive to be authentic and present at all times. What happens between us–- therapist and client–- is the most important factor for your personal growth. As I help you develop coping skills for life’s challenges, I will also pay the utmost attention to seeing you and providing a safe and trustworthy environment that will enable you to flourish.

Psychotherapy for Men
“Our society has long treated men as machines, as bodies expendable in the name of progress or profit. Men have overruled their pain and soul’s delight, taught to think of themselves as ‘mechanisms.’ Such an estrangement wounds very deeply.” – James Hollis, Jungian analyst
In my work with men, I have witnessed the agonizing truth of this statement. My task in working with them has become a journey of reunion with soul, of coming home to Self as one finds an identity not subsumed by work or exclusive value as “provider.” Although this journey is painful at first, it can lead to a glorious sense of fun, and joy in “mere being.”
Counseling for College Students and Younger Adults
Being a teen or younger adult comes with very particular challenges. I have over a decade of experience working in a college environment. I know that as young people seek to embody their own unique identity, they benefit from having a safe space of non-judgment. My practice provides a sounding board for teens and younger adults to better cope with their lives as they explore academic issues, personal identity, relationships with friends and family, sexuality, and career paths, among other concerns.
Couples Counseling
Relationships can seem to have their own lives sometimes, apart from the efforts of each individual inhabiting them. I can guide you and your partner to gain more awareness and help you improve communication, empathy, and intimacy through a process of mutual mindful exploration and experiential practice. You will gain insight into the dynamics of your interactions and learn how your individual attachment styles and unique personalities influence each other. In my work with couples, I utilize my background in Jungian depth psychology to help both of you re-awaken imagination in order to rekindle the relationship’s generative fire.
